Tips on Choosing the Right Wedding Car

One of the many decisions which need to be made during your wedding preparations will be which wedding car should I go for?

If you have your own car, my honest answer will be "Use your own car for your wedding!" One of my friends went against his in-laws' protest of driving his white Picanto to pick up his wife on his wedding day and I respect him for that.

Why? Only car owners in Singapore will know the obstacles, hardship and money that goes into his ride. And it is always a groom's pride and joy to pick up his missus in his ride which he has spent his effort on. After all, this may also be the car that they dated in.

So how about Chery QQ or Proton? As long as you are confident that your car won't break down during your big day, go ahead and use it.

However, if you do not own a car, here are some tips on which car you should go for:

Convertibles:

Our BMW 120i with Yong Wei and Jasmine

Pros - Great for actual day photos. Check out our banner and you will know why.
Who - For grooms who have driving license and the journey between A and B is short.
Cons - Small boot. Will require another car to transport your barang barang along to the hotel. A lot of care has to be taken when filling the boot as the mechanism may cause the roof to be stuck. If the groom seldom drives, he may feel stress driving such a sporty car. Most convertibles are low and requires proper navigation at multi-storey carparks.

Don't worry about wet weather. So far wedding AD either rains in the morning and stops in the afternoon or vice versa. There's more than enough time to snap some top down shots.

Sedans:

Pros - Large Boot. Usually big enough for one luggage and your wife's gowns. Worry free journey. Just lie back and shut your eyes while traveling from point A and B.
Who - Grooms who drive frequently may wish to free themselves of the jams formed on the SLE and PIE during the afternoon trip. Wedding couples who stay far from each other also should get a sedan to have a good rest during the journey to and fro.
Cons - I really can't think of any. Maybe the chauffeur that comes with the sedan keeps flirting with your wife? Let me know of any.

After deciding which type of car you should go for, the next question is:

Where do I get my cars?

FOC Cars

From your friends, relatives or associates of course. It should be free but as a gesture, you should be giving him/her a big ang bao. However if there is any last minute changes in the availability of the car, it does cause a strain in the relationship depending how you handle it.

OMO

One man operation. You will find many owners willing to rent out their cars in Google for a fee much lower than the market rate. They also offer half day, full day and per hour rate. Sounds good? Let me give you a scenario. On a profit point of view, if I were to accept a per hour rate say 4 hours first and then got another offer for a half day rate which nets me more but slightly more hours too, which one will I go for? Since I cannot do 2 weddings in a day, I will jump to the more profitable booking.

OMO also do not have back up cars for their couples. If something goes wrong, you will be able to get your deposit back but you will be scurrying around looking for a back up car. Something which you don't want to do so near your big day.

*But was WhiteWeddingCars a OMO before? Yes! But I worked with 2 agencies which had back up cars and I only had one single rate.

Car Rental Companies

They offer a wide range of cars but they do not only do weddings. If you were to pick up your car on Friday evening. they may rent out the car from Wednesday to Friday afternoon since the car is available and rent for profit. However, as most renters don't take care of the car they rent, the car may come back in a bad shape with scratches or minor damages. With no time to touch up the car, you can either stress yourself to find a back up car or take the damaged car. Maybe with an additional discount if your barter skills are good.

You may also be convinced into getting a 3 day or weekend package which offers a better per day rate as advertised. Picking up of the car and returning will also need to be done at their office.

Wedding Car Rental Companies

There are only a few companies focusing on wedding cars in Singapore. These companies will give you the right service and advice for your car choice. Their rental timing and packages usually fits most wedding couples and offer pick up and collection at the florist and hotel which is much convenient.

These wedding cars are only for Singapore roads and are not available for JB pick ups. Wedding couples who need a pickup in JB may need to go ahead with the rental companies.

There may also be a chance where you may also face the same situation where your car may be damaged by the previous groom. So make sure you check if there is any wedding booking before your AD and have a back up car.
